Are Hyperliquid whales taking or making? Market versus limit share of large fills
Group a coin's /large-fills by size_cohort and order_type; a cohort's market share above 50% means it takes liquidity more than it provides, since every trade in the feed has one market and one limit side.
GET /v1/hl-cohorts/symbols/{symbol}/large-fills answers it in one call: a coin's newest fills over $50,000, each
saying whether the wallet crossed the book (order_type: market, a taker) or rested on it (limit, a maker), with
the wallet's account-size rung in size_cohort. Sum size_usd per size_cohort and order_type; the market
share of a cohort's USD is how much of its large-fill volume it took rather than made. The full parameter list is
on Large fills.
Quick answer
Nothing but the coin: the default returns everything the feed holds.
# every ETH fill over $50,000 the feed holds
curl -H "X-API-Key: $VIKE_API_KEY" \
"https://data.vike.io/v1/hl-cohorts/symbols/ETH/large-fills"Example response
Captured from the live API on 2026-10-24 at 17:19 UTC, trimmed to 4 rows of 200.
The 200 rows covered the 30 minutes from covered_from to the call. Across all of them the market and limit sides
each total $14.57M, because every trade appears once per side: 50% is the baseline, not a finding. By cohort, 4x whale
wallets took 72% of their $6.67M ($4.82M at market) and whale wallets 71%, while 2x whale and 3x whale wallets
almost only made, 1% and 0%. All four whale rungs together came to 51%.

BTC. The same split on the busiest coin, where 200 fills reach back about 20 minutes.

A short window and a few wallets
The feed keeps the newest 200 fills over $50,000 per coin, so on ETH the shares describe half an hour, not a day; read
covered_from and repeat the call to build a longer sample. In a short window one or two wallets can make up a whole
cohort, so count distinct wallets before you generalise. size_cohort is the wallet's rung now, not at the fill, and
fills under $50,000 are not counted at all.
Ask your agent
Connected to the Vike MCP server (https://vike.io/mcp) in Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor, ask it in plain words.
The hl_market tool answers (view large_fills), at 1 credit a call.
