Recipe 32 of 65
Pick a tradable universe: the most liquid, most volatile or largest-OI Hyperliquid perps
Rank coins by open interest from /v1/hyperliquid/positions/symbols, then measure volatility from hourly closes on /v1/hyperliquid/symbols/hourly and daily volume from /v1/hyperliquid/ohlcv.
GET /v1/hyperliquid/positions/symbols answers the open-interest ranking in one call: every coin by total_value.
Take the top of that list to GET /v1/hyperliquid/symbols/hourly, which returns hourly closes for up to 64 coins at
once, and compute each coin's realized volatility from them. For liquidity, read a whole day's volume_usd from
GET /v1/hyperliquid/ohlcv per coin; GET /v1/hyperliquid/ohlcv/latest tells you which coins are trading this minute.
The full parameter lists are on Open interest by coin,
Coins hourly and Candles.
Quick answer
Rank by open interest first and keep the top 30.
# the 30 coins with the most open interest
curl -s -H "X-API-Key: $VIKE_API_KEY" \
"https://data.vike.io/v1/hyperliquid/positions/symbols" \
| jq '.[:30] | map({symbol, total_value, count})'Example response
Captured from the live API on 2026-10-24 at 17:15 UTC, the output of that jq filter, trimmed to 3 of 30 rows.
total_value is open interest in USD, longs and shorts together, and count the number of open positions. Half of
the top 30 were builder-dex markets such as xyz:SP500 and xyz:GOLD; drop the dex: names if you trade the main
venue only.

]Variations
Volatility over a month for the top coins. Hourly closes for up to 64 coins per call. Each row is an array in columns order (ts, symbol, close,
open_interest, funding_rate, premium); the standard deviation of log returns of close is the hourly realized
volatility.
# hourly closes of a basket over 30 days, one row per coin-hour
curl -H "X-API-Key: $VIKE_API_KEY" \
"https://data.vike.io/v1/hyperliquid/symbols/hourly?symbols=BTC,ETH,HYPE,SOL,ZEC&days=30"A whole day of volume for one coin. Pin start and end to UTC midnights, so the candle covers the full day.

# the newest 1-minute candle of every coin that traded in the last hour

open_interest in the hourly panel is in coins
In /symbols/hourly the open_interest column is the venue's figure in units of the coin, not USD, so it cannot rank
coins against each other. Rank by total_value from /positions/symbols, which is USD. The panel has a close but no
high or low, so it gives close-to-close volatility; for a true-range measure such as ATR read /ohlcv per coin.
Volume needs a whole window
/ohlcv/latest is the newest minute only, and that minute may still be forming: a ranking on it is a snapshot, not
liquidity. A 1d call without start begins partway through a day: limit=2 asked at 17:15 UTC on 2026-10-24
returned a 2026-10-22 candle of $452M against $2.17B for the whole of 2026-10-23, and left 2026-10-24 out. The panel
refuses more than 64 coins or 256,000 rows per request; split a wider basket across calls.
Ask your agent
Connected to the Vike MCP server (https://vike.io/mcp) in Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor, ask it in plain words.
The hl_market tool answers with view: open_interest; hl_ohlcv gives the candles per coin, at 1 credit a call.
